I’ve got some fun news to share today! Tracy over at Baking Mischief saw my post about Great-Grandma Mary’s Buttermilk Pie and wrapped it up in a tidy little package with a bunch of other tasty recipes! Check it out here.
So, this is pretty exciting for me and I keep thinking about how excited Grandma Joyce would be if I told her…then I think about how confused she’d be. You know a quick update on the technological advances of the last 20-something years Internet-websites-blogs-Pinterest. Surely she’ll get it. Right?
While I was in college, my Grandpa was sick so I came to stay with Grandma Joyce for a few days to help out. It was looking like Grandpa might be in the hospital for a bit so I came up with the brilliant idea that I could teach Grandma how to play solitaire on the computer. She loved cards; was endlessly interested in what the latest trends were (solitaire was a solid trend!); and she was forever a student, wanting to learn. Grandpa was the tech guy of the house so we had our work cut out for us.
We sat down together at the desk in their office, had a little chat about the mouse and how it works. Grandma confidently grabbed the mouse so I pointed at the start menu that would lead us to the list of games. She hovered that little arrow right over start. Just as she was about to click she got excited, the arrow shot up the screen and a word doc opened up. Stay calm, “That’s ok, we just need to head over to the ‘x’ up here, click there and it’ll close that page.” With the arrow squarely on the “x” the mouse scurried up the screen just as she clicked. Another window opened.
And then another
And another.
And another.
Grandma, gently grabbed my wrist and said, “Maybe we can try this another day.”
All this to say, this blogging bit probably wouldn’t have made sense to her that day.
Here are a couple of my other Grandma faves that use buttermilk in the recipe:
