Cucumber sandwiches scream, fancy tea party. Those, of course, would be cut into dainty shapes with their crusts trimmed off. This recipe suggests nothing of the sort.
These are picnic sandwiches. Simple. And honestly, pretty darn tasty.
You’ve gotta follow the directions exactly as they’re written. They leave no room for guessing how to serve, when or with what.
Here’s your answer key:
“Serve with chilled red wine (precooled and put in a thermos) and your favorite brownies or cookies for dessert.”
Cucumber Sandwiches
wheat bread (the recipe suggests “brown bread” so I’m sure most any will do.)
butter
cucumber, thinly sliced
Butter bread slices. Layer cucumber slices on one slice and cover with other.
Don’t skimp, there isn’t much to this sandwich so give the butter a chance!
Same goes, don’t skimp. This is the only other thing you’re putting on here.
Brown bread, butter, cucumbers, wine and my favorite cookies…all together. Glorious!
What’s your favorite picnic treat?
I am a huge fan of a veggie sando. I think I’d have to substitute the butter for cream cheese on this one.
Good call!
