Glamorous? No
Glorious? YES!
These three-ingredient puffs need to be at every Super Bowl Party in American this year. (Well, not the ones jam packed with vegans and vegetarians…they won’t care for these much.)
Hot out of the oven, reheated, doesn’t matter. They are impossible to describe and oddly difficult to pinpoint what they are if you aren’t given a headsup but all of my tasters had seconds…and thirds. They have the zest of Hot Italian Sausage, a biscuit-ish interior with a crispy, golden cheesy edge.
Three-Ingredient Sausage Puffs
2 cups Bisquick
1 lb pork sausage (Hot Italian adds some kick)
1 lb cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 375°.
It is easiest if the sausage is bulk but if it is in the casing you’ll have to remove the casings first.
Mix together until well blended. You will need to knead it like a firm dough. Form into “walnut-sized” balls. (Rounded tablespoon if walnut-size isn’t one of your typical measurements.) Place on cookie sheet and press with fork. Bake at 375° for 20-25 min. Serve warm.
I used a blend of Monterey Jack and Cheddar because that’s what I had on hand. Pepper Jack would add a little extra kick too if you want to take that route!
Dump everything together and start kneading. Elbow-grease required…it won’t seem like it is going to come together but it will, and it is worth it!
Scoop the “dough” onto the cookie sheet.
Evenly spaced, these will grow slightly.
Flatten slightly with a fork. (Yes, that’s my favorite helper’s hand, not mine.)
Then bake.
Serve solo, or you can get creative with sauces like marinara or a grainy mustard.
Are you hooked?!
We don’t have Bisquick in the UK but oh my, are your photos enticing me! Sausage meat is always delish and adding cheese is *never* a bad thing! Love your photos
Oooh, I hope you have something similar so you can give it a try!
These sound fabulous but I have no idea what bisquick is, can you fill me in 😀
It is a biscuit/baking mix that we use here in the states. It can be used for waffles, pancakes, biscuits, etc. Do you have anything like it?
Great recipe! This would be good at any party. Thanks for sharing.
