This recipe from Great-Grandma Mary’s stash is called Hoale, and the headline says, “Haole Makes Meal”. Haole is a term that means, all things not Hawaiian. I don’t know as much as I’d like to about Hawaiian food, so I don’t know what modern day Hawaiians would say about his recipe. Let me know if you’ve got any insight!
I wouldn’t have expected this one from Grandma Joyce…I don’t really remember her as a ketchup kind of girl. To be honest, I snickered a bit as I was making this less than impressive dish. I’m not a ketchup girl myself, especially not the kind that likes ketchup on her eggs!
The amount of green chiles that sneak into Great-Grandma Mary’s recipes show her California ranching roots. I think they’re a necessity in a lot of western cooking and I absolutely love that they show up so frequently!
